And, I too may be in the dark ages. I haven't listened to any synthetic sounds in a long time and will not allow my wife to use them. I have put music on a thumb drive and plugged it in to her keyboard for accompanying sounds, but not generate it with the keyboard. The keyboard is hard enough to take.

Bro EJFH well stated about an ensemble or band, I know we do those things here, the guitarist shift from one verse to the next as the music progresses.

I love the sound of a good acoustic, each make has a distinct sound, of all of them I like the sound of a Taylor 312 ce, the best, it has good bass response but but it is clear in the higher notes they ring. The Gibson is great if you want that deep bass sound in everything, it to me lacks the high end. The Martins are my second choice and I have owned two of them. But the instant an acoustic is plugged in there are nuances of the acoustic that the sound equipment cannot duplicate at all. Ah the search for a perfect pickup and the perfect amp.
Instant HUMAN, just add coffee. I am not picky Italian roast brewed in a French press, will do fine.

Just for the record, the caveats listed by Bro. EJFH are things that should be considered. He possibly overstated his disgust with such problems, but the concerns are valid. Just because you can play an instrument through your keyboard doesn't mean you know how it should be played (whoever heard of a bass guitar being played at C7?) :P And just because you can play a trumpet doesn't mean you should push Bro. Greg out of the way, tell him he can put his trumpet up and take his place on stage. And just because you can make a sound track doesn't mean it should be used when there's a good drummer onstage to play with you.

Having gotten all that said.........

Does anyone use a computer in your music chain? Does anyone want to? If you have a computer and a keyboard, all you need is an adapter to connect them. Programs and instruments are all free, and it can be a great tool when there's no other musician available that night.

Made a soundtrack for a song the Children's Church choir will be singing next Sunday.

http://stash.reaper.fm/v/4805/Victory%2 ... 0amped.mp3

If it sounds a little 808ish, that's intentional. It's how the song is supposed to go. It's repetitive too. Also, it's repetitive too.

Ignore the Reaper references. Reaper is the DAW I'm using. They had a naming contest and that won. :/

I'll pretend I remember what DAW means. Or that I ever knew in the first place. Ditto with 808-ish. And no, I "don't fear the reaper."

I'll give you this: you didn't try to modulate through all twelve keys, though for a tense few minutes there, I thought you might! ;)

How old are the kids that this is for? Ever write original tunes for them? OK, I'll stop asking questions now. I'm just briefly enjoying a thread with no theology at stake. The absence of pressure, of intensity, is relaxing. Fun even.

Hey, I just had a thought (it happens sometimes); why not compose a sonic signature for this forum? Something as simple as the tones that Intel uses for "Intel Inside", or something as complex as an entire soundtrack going on the in the background -- a different one for the various types of threads. Maybe classical choral music for the theology threads, something else for sports or automotive. Why not, as long as those who didn't want to hear it had the option of turning it off? We could even solicit multiple entries and choose a winner. Like I said, just a thought....

You spend much time on that thought?

Actually, I wish there was a lot of things that we could do with this forum. AUDIO of any type.

EJFH: Modulate through all twelve keys? You must have missed the organ, it went through multiple octaves in one second. While that would sound weird on most instruments, for an organ it was just right. :)

My fingers started getting chapped. First time I'd ever played a glissando that long and it took me a few tries.

By the way, 808 refers to hollow sounding drumkits. Specifically those that sound like the Roland 808, back in the day. Not the real drums I used (those I made from some really good samples) but the sounds you hear in the first measure, before the real drums and flute start. DAW is a digital audio workstation you can use to make songs. In this case the DAW is Reaper, which is really good despite the name. If it had any other name I'd buy the t-shirt, but it wouldn't look good for a minister with a UPCI local license to be wearing a t-shirt that says Reaper. :P

About writing songs for Children's Church..... maybe someday. I have a song brewing in the back of my head for a solo to sing, but I'm not very experienced at writing new music yet. Right now I'm still just learning to play, not good enough to play onstage at church yet.

Why? Do you know the varied meanings of the word reaper? I would think that if the fields are "white already to harvest" you'd want to be a reaper and be known as one.

I think I've just been "zinged." :o

Maybe we could start with being able to plug audio clips into the threads. When one gets heated, for instance, there could be an audio clip of Bro. Crawford invoking a chill pill. 8-)

Or maybe on the humor forum, all the jokes would be audio clips, so that we hear you telling the joke in your own voice. Some of the accents would be funnier than the punchlines! (Not naming any names here, Bro. L. Really.)
